How our online web design courses for kids work

We use a state-of-the-art virtual learning platform which lets your child learn remotely and virtually with the support of a tutor. You child simply logs in once a week to attend a web design class with a handful of other students.

It’s fun, engaging, and lets them use virtual tools to communicate with their tutor and class friends.

As well as learning cutting-edge tech skills, your child will be learning to work with the virtual technology that will surround them in the future and that are essential in the modern working environment.

It’s as simple as:

  • Each child attends a virtual assessment and orientation.
  • Your child will then receive an online account.
  • Simply log in, view the schedule and join their virtual lesson.
  • Our expert tutor will guide your child through the lesson.

All you will need is a computer with Microsoft Windows, headphones with a microphone, and an Internet connection.

What the kids’ online web design course includes

The CreativeTech lessons will let your child design and publish a fully functioning website onto the World Wide Web.

It’s not just about HTML, CSS, JavaScript and coding though. Our tutors will also give your child a background in the history and structure of the Internet, plus theory-based lessons on colours, typography, layout and design.

  • Course duration: 1 year with weekly 80-minute lessons during term time.
  • Tutor reports and recognition with an end of year certificate.

What your child will learn

By the end of the year’s course of web design classes your child will have learnt:

  • The protocols and tools required to create a website
  • To code and decipher HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language)
  • How to implement CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to give their website a consistent and professional feel

Why web design for kids is important

Web design for kids can give them a creative outlet that they not only enjoy but can also get them ahead in later life from a career perspective.

The confidence and joy they get from seeing their own website creation and content being published for a world-wide audience is a delight to see.

And just like you might enrol your child in an after-school sports or music club, kids’ web design lessons can be just as important.

We previously published 13 reasons why kids should learn to code on our blog. Here are those reasons below, and to read more about them in detail, read the full blog post.

  1. Coding helps with school & academic performance

  5. Coding is fun!
  6. Coding isn’t just about computers
  7. Coding is the language of the world

  13. Coding helps to future proof your child’s job prospects

It’s not something that’s taught in schools

It’s also important to consider that web design isn’t an individual subject on the UK curriculum for children aged 7 to 18.

Given the opportunities web design can offer as a future career, or simply something that business owners of the future should understand, it’s a hugely valuable skill.

Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web is a huge advocate for kids learning how build websites to code with programming language from a young age. He was quoted as saying:

“We need to introduce people to coding early so that the people to whom it appeals can then get as much time to do it as they need and really excel. We need more people to have done coding to actually end up doing it for a living.”

At FunTech, we aim to address this with our term time web design classes for kids.

Web design can lead to a wide range of careers

Learning web design at a young age can lead onto a wide range of careers due to the skills and disciplines it helps to encourage.

Web design itself is a skill that is very much in demand currently, and that’s only going to increase in the future.

However, web design doesn’t necessarily mean that a child will be pigeon-holed into just that one career. We frequently see kids that love this subject matter go on to have careers in various industries with roles including:

  • Applications developer
  • Games developer
  • Multimedia programmer
  • Multimedia specialist
  • SEO specialist
  • UX analyst
  • UX designer
  • Web content manager
  • Web designer
  • Web developer

Those are very specialist roles and are in demand in the UK right now and will be in years to come.

But in truth, every person working in business today should have an understanding of the web and how it works.

That’s why we place such emphasis on web design for kids in our CreativeTech lessons and classes.
