Minecraft with Mods

My daughter attended the two week Minecraft with Mods program. She absolutely loved it (and didn't mind being the only girl!). It was a great blend of being able to spend time playing Minecraft but also creating new items for the game. She would like to do it again.

My son had a lot of fun on the minecraft with mods course and is now really enjoying using his new skills to play imaginatively with Minecraft. The course has helped both his creativity and his technical abilities. We wish there was another more advanced course available to learn even more!

My 9 year old daughter did this course and had so much fun! Creative and inspiring course, a great way for minecraft lovers to create new weapons, creatures, etc. A fun way to spend the summer holiday. Thank you Funtech!

Minecraft Mods virtual camp

Alexi loved doing the course. It was well organised, the teacher was punctual and it kept my son interested and stimulated for the whole morning. Alexi learned new things and feels more confident as a result. We'd definitely do a similar course if we can find the right fit for us.

I was playing with him today thinking of how we could build the old 1980's game Asteroids, and he had some good ideas. Thanks for the great camp experience for him.

If there was any constructive feedback it's that there was one day where there was quite a bit of focus on maths which he found tedious, specifically, he didn't feel he learned anything new. Still, we reassured him, it was probably just a day, and the next day he was right back into it.

My daughter enjoyed this course and her time with Funtech! She was always eager and enthusiastic to engage with his instructors and to share all that she was learning with us. I appreciate the dedication of the staff and management of ensuring the best experience for our daughter. The small groups and one on one interaction with the instructor was awesome providing the best learning experience! I recommend Funtech without any hesitations. They are amazing! I was worried about whether an online concept of a camp would work with my son, who has attention difficulties. Now I know that he can sit and concentrate on something that he loves doing for hours at a time! I thought the whole set up was well handled, the tutor handled the kids really well and they were prepared to modify the course slightly to make sure that my son was not bored as he had already taught himself a lot of the starting content. All in all, I was really impressed. Thank you!

Both of my sons undertook the Minecraft with mods course, over a 2 week period in the summer holidays. The course was 'virtual' as it took place during partial lockdown, and we were a little apprehensive going into it, as though both love Minecraft, home-schooling had not been easy, and there was a real risk that the course would not grip them.

They both really loved it, and immediately built a rapport with the online tutor, who was really approachable and engaged really well. After 6 days (of 10) my youngest (7) fell out of the course, as he was struggling to maintain his energy levels, but this, in itself, was not too disappointing. He has ASD and for him to engage with a tutor online for 6 days, for 3.5 hours a day, was a real step forward. My only comment would be that shorter courses (perhaps 5 days) would be more appropriate for children who find it hard to engage online.

My oldest (9), of course, loved every minute and stayed to the end. He'd def. do something similar again.

And both boys are using the skills that they learned to adapt their own Minecraft worlds.

All in all, a great experience.

My daughter was super excited about this course and was not disappointed. She attended in 2020, after weeks of lockdown, and so the structure and the opportunity to do something new was fantastic. The content was engaging and she learned lots. Funtech were very attentive, and if anything too attentive as any constructive comments left by my daughter in daily feedback forms would result in phone call to mum! She has learned skills to keep occupied for a long time to come. Would recommend.

They mainly play Roblox, but were too young for that course, so we enrolled them in Minecraft coding lessons and they were soon creating new worlds and spawning new life forms together. They were a little behind the older boys who knew the game and we were separated off with a dedicated teacher to help at the right level, which was fantastic.
There were a few blips at the tart when we had to sort a virtual machine as one of our computers wasn't high enough spec, but everyone was so patient and tech support was superb.
I think Funtech really sparked an interest in the maths behind the games too - the girls are keen to do more next year and as they were able to take Childcare Vouchers as payment we'll be back next holidays for more, hopefully IRL, but virtual was made to work almost as well.

Amazing camp!

My boy is seven years old and although he is obsessed with Minecraft we have not been allowing him to play regularly because we worry about game addiction. We thought learning how to mod would be a good way for him to do something he really wants to do while being a creator rather than just a consumer.

Oliver was an amazing teacher and our boy learned so much every day. He developed a lot of familiarity with the PC, using the keyboard and mouse, running programs, and finding his way around a developer environment. Every day I have came home from work and he was eager to show off his latest inventions. He retained a lot of his knowledge and was able to independently create things at a later date.

Overall, I give this camp my highest recommendation!

My son loved the virtual camp, he was so excited on the first day he woke at 3am! His enthusiasm continued for the whole camp (2 wks of half days). Thankfully he didn't wake early each day! The learning was well managed and from my point of view worked well over the video calls.
It was very interactive and the group discussions appeared active. The content from modding blocks to equipment and fully automated farming had him engaged .

We have been wanting our son to do a camp with FunTech for a long time but unfortunately they didn't have a location in our area. The virtual camp offering has really opened up the courses for everyone. Adam, our son, absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to join the course each day, the tutor was brilliant and Adam was enthusiastically showing me what he had done each day. One day he hadn't quite grasped the concept fully and FunTech proactively gave me a call offering a 1-2-1 session to ensure he wasn't missing out in any way, it really is a first class operation. We have already booked another camp and are looking at term time as well, we are excited to see where this goes.

My daughter loved the experience. She learnt a lot and is now enjoying creating mods with minecraft. The response from the team was timely and very professional. Joining the course from Nairobi, Kenya, we were not sure how accessible this would be, but it was easy! The teachers were very patient with the kids and even allowed for extra lessons when needed! We couldn't ask for more! I will definitely consider enrolling the kids at funtech again.

A great camp which was throughly enjoyed

Will, the instructor, brought the group together and took them on a wonderful journey through building out all the minecraft modifications. A great two weeks for our children.

Ayaan had a super time doing this course. He learned so many new skills and enjoyed it thoroughly.
He said his tutor was amazing and great teacher.

He has already asked me to sign him up again next year!

My son really liked the course and enjoyed the format and the content. His tutor was very good and knowledgeable. Overall very good first experience in coding and programming leading to more- I will definitely be booking more courses.

The teacher Will was amazingly patient with the cheerfully chatty kids. And got the course done.

I'm happy that i can use this as stepping stone to getting my daughter coding, starting from a point of joy.

Very engaging and comprehensive course

I was very impressed with how much content was covered and how it was targeted at a level that 7 year olds can understand. The first day was a bit painful due to most students not having the software set up correctly - so I suggest in future there should be a day of prep in advance of the course...

I was very impressed with how much content was covered and how it was targeted at a level that 7 year olds can understand.
The first day was a bit painful due to most students not having the software set up correctly - so I suggest in future there should be a day of prep in advance of the course with a tech support expert.

Matt was excellent at tailoring the content to the level of the group and very good at giving 1-to-1 support - he was extremely helpful with more advanced concepts and taking it beyond the limitations of the software.

Only area for improvement would be to find a way to pass complex technical issues (with one student) on to a support person so that it doesn't hold up the rest of the class.
It would also be nice to do some sort of show-and-tell on the last day where each child could show the others what they have created.

overall though it was a great 2 weeks
