My son is in Year 13 studying A-Level Computer Science, but Object Orientation had been a real struggle. As a software engineer, I tried to help, and even his fee-paying school covered the material, yet he still couldn’t grasp the concepts, let alone apply them.

I signed him up for an Easter OOP course at FunTech, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting much, but I was blown away.

In just one week, FunTech achieved what neither I nor his school could in over a year. The course was brilliantly structured, the tutor was exceptional, and my son fin by what they achieved in just one week—something neither I nor his school could in over a year. The course was brilliantly structured, the tutor was exceptional, and my son finally understood classes, inheritance, and polymorphism. Most importantly, his confidence in coding skyrocketed.

I can’t recommend FunTech highly enough."

Course was fantastic. By the end of the week, my son could code confidently in Python. The virtual teaching worked very well and my son enjoyed the feedback and challenges given by his tutor.

Alexia is an 11 yr old non-native English speaker complete beginner with games and screens. Probably wrongly, we were obsessed about keeping her away from screens and did a great job. The consequence was that her gap with any other regular kid is very wide when it comes to tech. We came to the conclusion there is no escape from the tech world for the young generation and wanted to introduce her to the space. I had been following Funtech for a while since a leaflet landed in my box. Alexia was initially registered for a summer residential camp. We were very happy that Funtech was making a great effort to still trying to deliver the programs despite the cancellation due to the virus.
So the course started and Alexia really, really struggled. She couldn't cope with the content, the program and the pace. Funtech was extremely honest in providing very valuable feedback while coming up with an option so Alexia could continue to learn at her own pace. I would not get into details but everything was about Alexia gaining a positive learning experience and Funtech was very flexible and very generous. Cato, the teacher was excellent, very patient and always advancing in content despite minimal feedback from Alexia. Alexia loved the class and was always looking forward to the next session despite her struggles. Mamta was reaching to us daily to discuss the situation and to make sure things were going in the right direction. Adrian also was very helpful.
Now is up to Alexia to continue to learn and, we hope she does that and, comes back to funtech for a different course but for sure she has been given a great introduction to a complete new world. With sincere thanks to all in Funtech. Jose

Questionable pricing policy

Adding £100 to the cost and then offering a £100 discount seems really quite questionable...

Very engaging and comprehensive course

I was very impressed with how much content was covered and how it was targeted at a level that 7 year olds can understand. The first day was a bit painful due to most students not having the software set up correctly - so I suggest in future there should be a day of prep in advance of the course...

The first day was a bit painful due to most students not having the software set up correctly - so I suggest in future there should be a day of prep in advance of the course with a tech support expert.

Matt was excellent at tailoring the content to the level of the group and very good at giving 1-to-1 support - he was extremely helpful with more advanced concepts and taking it beyond the limitations of the software.

Only area for improvement would be to find a way to pass complex technical issues (with one student) on to a support person so that it doesn't hold up the rest of the class.
It would also be nice to do some sort of show-and-tell on the last day where each child could show the others what they have created.

overall though it was a great 2 weeks

This was a rather unfortunate start to the course as a disproportionate number of families had not completed their Pre-camp Check List - to address this all families are now being contacted prior to the course start date.

Luca enjoyed some parts of this course but struggled with the virtual side. With his dyslexia he struggles remembering the instructions so we ended up taking a photo because the instructions moved on. He also found the constant chattering of some students very off putting, making it hard to concentrate and hear. The instructor was very helpful and Luca gained confidence to use the messaging chat to ask for help over the first few days. Its a hard course but very interesting and Luca said he would have preferred a classroom - at least he tried!
