FunTech is one of the leading UK providers of summer camps for children, with a focus on making science and technology fun. We run Oxford coding camps, robotics courses, video game design lessons, and much more across the summer months.

Running from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, here’s a selection of our best summer holiday camps in Oxford for this year. Book now to avoid disappointment as places are filling up fast.

Our Oxford summer holiday camps

So, what’s on offer?

Here’s a selection of our current holiday camps all of which have a tech or science-based focus.

Minecraft with Mods (ages 7 to 10)

If you have a child who loves to play Minecraft, this summer camp will transform their experience from being a gamer to a Modder.

As with all our Oxford coding courses, it’s always fun and engaging, but is underpinned with learning, problem solving and creativity.

Your child will learn how to master the secrets of Minecraft with other kids who love the game, with a structured approach to coding that is age appropriate.

Touch Typing with FunTyper (ages 7 to 16)

Learning how to type doesn’t have to be boring, with FunTyper being a world away from what you might expect… it’s a games platform to encourage learning!

The FunTyper touch typing course offers a huge amount of variety, as it rolls entertainment and gaming challenge into one engaging kid’s typing course.

Alien Rescue, Key Zap, Ninja Attack and The Blob are just some of the games your child could experience while they learn key ergonomic strategies like perfect posture and correct muscle memory.

Minecraft Engineering (ages 9 to 12)

This kid’s summer camp is for older children who want to learn more about engineering and electronics. They start off by learning how to use energy to create the different logic gates and then combine those to create different circuits and complex electronic items.

As the week progresses the circuits will become more complex. Toward the end of the week your child’s imagination will go into overdrive as they fully comprehend the limitless possibilities of being an electronic inventor.

These skills will be used to design and implement an adventure course that family and friends must navigate through – come early as these are often quite challenging!

Roblox Game Maker (ages 9 to 12)

Roblox has grown in popularity in recent years, with kids being able to create their own games. Whether your child is a Roblox beginner or already knows a little about game development, they will learn how to develop stunning creations in a fun week of experimentation.

Towards the end of the week, your will learn how to publish their game to the Roblox platform and then challenge all the new friends they’ve made to a game.

This is an excellent summer camps for kids who want to get ahead in coding and video game design.

3D Game Design (ages 10 to 14)

This Oxford coding camp is a little more advanced than our Roblox course, as it lets children learn the skills needed to create their own seriously impressive multi-platform video game.

The coding languages used in this camp are used today in many tech industries including video game design, engineering, and robotics.

Your child will learn how to create exhilarating custom behaviours and incredible game mechanics. From a coding perspective they will master essential programming concepts such as variables, branching, looping, events and more.

Python Coder (ages 10 to 16)

For kids who have previously booked in Oxford at a younger age, Python Coder is the perfect summer coding course this year.

Python coding is ideal for children as it places an emphasis on code readability and minimalistic syntax, making it the ideal programming language for slightly older children.

Our tutors will teach your child to code and problem solve with a series of daily practical exercises and fun projects leaving them with the ability to create their own projects in confidence.

The benefits of STEM summer camps

Aside from some of the more obvious reasons for your child attending a summer holiday camps in Oxford, there are benefits relating to the subject matter.

All FunTech summer camps in Oxford are focussed on STEM subjects… science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. But that doesn’t mean our classes are like school lessons.

Far from it.

Instead, our classes focus on fun learning, interactivity, and engagement whilst still letting your child learn invaluable skills.

Here are just some of the things we believe your child will benefit from if they attend a FunTech summer holiday camp in Oxford this year.

1: Learn and improve basic STEM skills

Your child might not be getting the STEM education they need at school. It’s an unfortunate fact that not all schools are able to afford the resources and time to offer a well-rounded approach to STEM topics.

At the FunTech summer camps, all children are given the opportunity to conduct their own experiments. That can be creating a video game for their friends to play, or it could mean then 3D printing their own creation.

We even have kids who design and build their own robots and then take part in a Robot Wars challenge.

Ultimately, we can turn your child’s passion into something tangible and real with a focus on problem solving whilst learning how things work.

The bottom line is; it’s probably going to be a lot more fun and engaging than how science subjects will have been delivered in a school environment.

And as your kids learns and has fun at FunTech, they will also be developing skills that they might even be able to use in the future for a possible career.

2: Explore different career options

Speaking of careers, all of our Oxford summer camps utilise the latest technology and equipment. This means your child will learn to code using the latest programming languages, will learn to 3D model using up to date methods and printers, and will mod in Minecraft using the latest techniques.

This lets your child get exposed to real-world technologies that are being used in the workplaces of today. As they progress through the week, our tutors will show them how these skills could be used in a future career.

It’s important for not just your child’s future, but also that of the UK economy. Recent research has shown that there is a shortage in applicants for STEM based job roles. And those job roles pay significantly more money than other non-tech careers.

We’ve had children attend our Oxford science camps that want to become video game designers. Some kids want to learn how to be cyber security experts. Whilst others just want to be better at Roblox.

Whatever your child’s passion, we can help them to get ahead.

3: Make new friends

If you have a child who loves a technology topic, but none of their school friends do, our Oxford summer camps present the ideal opportunity for them to meet like-minded kids.

The FunTech summer camps immerse children into a fun environment with other children who want to learn and have fun with subjects they are passionate about.

Children who interact and learn alongside those with similar interests will find it easier to make friendships. They will also be more inclined to learn and have fun.

Many of the children who have come to FunTech’s Oxford science and coding camps have left having made long-lasting friendships. Many who end up continuing to develop projects with each other once the summer has ended.

4: And lastly, it’s about having fun

Summer holidays are meant to be fun for kids. They need to be kept busy and entertained, and our Oxford STEM summer camps place fun at the core of everything on offer.

Why choose FunTech?

If you need more reasons to book with us, here are some other ways in which we believe our summer camps can help your child…

  • Helps with school and academic performance.
  • Helps with maths and logical problem solving.
  • Helps with writing skills & creativity.
  • Helps with confidence.
  • Helps to future proof your child’s job prospects.
