There are several computer and robotic engineering courses available at the FunTech summer camps this year. Just two examples are learning digital engineering with Minecraft and Lego Robotics. Outlines of the courses are shown below, followed with some great reasons why a kid should attend a summer engineering camp.
Minecraft Redstone Engineer (ages 9 to 12)
Redstone is Minecraft’s equivalent of electricity. The Minecraft Redstone engineering course starts by teaching kids how to use this energy to create the different logic gates. Your child will then learn how these logic gates can be combined to create different circuits and complex electronic items such as calculators, elevators and more. They’ll use all the skills they learn to design and build an amazing adventure course full of challenges, surprises and puzzles that players must navigate through!
Lego Robotics (ages 11 to 14)
Your child will design and build an EV3 LEGO robot before testing and battling. They will learn to use command tools to make complex programs including pathfinding algorithms and gyroscopic navigation. During the week they will test their robot in events such as Maze Mapper and Cube Control. At the end of the week, after making adjusts to improve the performance and durability, they will be ready to compete against each other in Robot Wars!
Why kids should attend an engineering summer camp
Kids that attending a summer camp for engineering will not just have a great time during the school holidays, they can also develop new skills.
Hands-on learning: If your child attends one of our camp locations for Lego Robotics, it gives them an opportunity for hands-on experiences where they engage directly with engineering concepts. This practical approach helps to reinforce theoretical knowledge and encourages a deeper understanding of engineering principles.
STEM skills development: Our engineering camps focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills. By participating in our courses, kids can enhance skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
Exposure to engineering disciplines: Engineering is a broad field encompassing various disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, civil, aerospace, and biomedical engineering, among others. Our engineering summer camps focus on digital and mechanical skills meaning they can explore those interests early on, before possibly thinking about them for a future career.
Creativity and innovation: Our courses all involve creativity and innovation where kids need to design solutions to complex problems. Camp activities often encourage kids to think creatively, experiment with ideas, and come up with innovative solutions, fostering their creative thinking skills and entrepreneurial mindset.
Career exploration: The FunTech summer camps can provide insights into potential career paths in engineering. By interacting with our tutors and fellow students on exciting projects, kids can gain a better understanding of what it’s like to work in various engineering fields, helping them make informed decisions about their future academic and career pursuits.
Confidence building: Successfully completing FunTech projects whilst overcoming challenges along the way can boost a kid’s confidence and self-esteem. These experiences help them develop a sense of accomplishment and belief in their abilities, motivating them to pursue their interests further.
Overall, attending a FunTech summer camp and taking an engineering focussed course can be a fun, enriching, and rewarding experience that not only expands kids’ knowledge and skills but also ignites their passion for STEM and empowers them to pursue their dreams in the field of engineering.
