Here are some fun and educational coding activities for kids, tailored for different age groups and skill levels. Some of them we can help your child with, as we run coding camps over the summer holidays, after school virtual clubs, and more.
Kid’s Coding Activities
Beginner Level (Ages 7 to 10)
1. Make a Simple Game in Scratch
- Resource: Scratch
- Activity: Create a “Catch the Ball” game where kids use the arrow keys to move a character about the screen to catch any falling objects. If your child needs help with this activity, we recommend our Scratch coding course.
- What They Learn: Basic logic, loops, and conditionals.
2. Code a Virtual Greeting Card
- Resource: YouTube / Scratch
- Activity: Design an interactive greeting card with animations and messages.
- What They Learn: Event-based programming and creative design.

Intermediate Level (Ages 10 to 13)
3. Build a Simple Website
- Resource: Glitch
- Activity: Create a personal homepage with HTML and CSS. This is something that FunTech can also help with. We run after school tech lessons, including CreativeTech which has a module on website design with HTML.
- What They Learn: Basics of web development and design.
4. Create a Maze Game in Scratch
- Tool: Scratch
- Activity: Kids design a maze and code the player controls to navigate through it.
- What They Learn: Logic, problem-solving, and sprite interactions.
5. Solve Puzzles with Blockly
- Resource: Blockly Games
- Activity: Play puzzle games that teach loops, conditionals, and basic logic.
- What They Learn: Foundational programming concepts.

Advanced Level (Ages 13+)
6. Build a Simple App
- Resource: MIT App Inventor
- Activity: Create a basic app like a quiz or a calculator for mobile phones.
- What They Learn: App development and user interfaces.
7. Code a Python Game
- Resource: FunTech’s Python Course
- Activity: Write a “Guess the Number” game or a simple text-based adventure. We offer three Python courses currently, and they can actually be started from the age of 11.
- What They Learn: Python syntax, variables, loops, and user input.
