My sons really enjoyed their virtual camp. From listening in sporadically, the tutors were engaging and very helpful in explaining how things work. I particularly appreciated the support system - one of our computers was acting up and the IT team was really excellent at troubleshooting virtually, and even offering some extra tutoring time to make up for lost hours. I'd highly recommend funtech courses!

Python Coder

My son thoroughly enjoyed the Python Coder virtual camp. Initially he was worried it would not be visually stimulating enough but once he started he loved it. The teacher was very supportive, kind and patient and my son made friends on the camp. Excellent!

Great fun while learning

Our daughter loved the virtual 2 weeks Minecraft Mods Camp! She was excited to learn and create new things every day. Highly professionally organised.

Virtual Camp - Minecraft Engineering

My son really enjoyed the camp, however since he did Minecraft Mods and Engineering, it would have been nice if he got some direction as to how he can utilise what he learned and apply the knowledge into some projects.

Funny days

My son enjoyed a lot during the classes, he was stuck to the computer while classes took place.
He didn't rest during breaks he was literally glued to the screen. He learned a lot and he discovered an unknown world of Roblox.

Minecraft and Roblox camps respectively

Just some feedback-
She has done the course unsupervised by an adult and was prompted to log in at the start of the day. Hence, I haven't really been around to directly witness how she fared and and much of the time she has actually engaged in the course. Not sure if it is possible to give individual feedback, but in her case, it would have been useful to find out how she had been performing/ engaging during the course of the week. Nevertheless, every evening, when asked how her day had been, she always replied 'It was great!"

Fabulous!

A fab experience beginning to end. Every little attention to detaIl & the few issues that we had were solved quickly and painlessly. My son loved the 3D gaming course and would definitely do another funtech course.

Great tutor, fantastic programme

My daughter really enjoyed the programming and learnt a lot at the virtual camp. Her tutor was patient and great and providing clarity when required.

Great virtual camp

My son really enjoyed the Indie Game Developer virtual camp. He has developed his creative skills and gained confidence in designing his own games.
Having the virtual camp in the mornings has allowed him to do other activities in the afternoons which gave him a good balance of activities.

Both of my sons undertook the Minecraft with mods course, over a 2 week period in the summer holidays. The course was 'virtual' as it took place during partial lockdown, and we were a little apprehensive going into it, as though both love Minecraft, home-schooling had not been easy, and there was a real risk that the course would not grip them.

They both really loved it, and immediately built a rapport with the online tutor, who was really approachable and engaged really well. After 6 days (of 10) my youngest (7) fell out of the course, as he was struggling to maintain his energy levels, but this, in itself, was not too disappointing. He has ASD and for him to engage with a tutor online for 6 days, for 3.5 hours a day, was a real step forward. My only comment would be that shorter courses (perhaps 5 days) would be more appropriate for children who find it hard to engage online.

My oldest (9), of course, loved every minute and stayed to the end. He'd def. do something similar again.

And both boys are using the skills that they learned to adapt their own Minecraft worlds.

All in all, a great experience.

My daughter was super excited about this course and was not disappointed. She attended in 2020, after weeks of lockdown, and so the structure and the opportunity to do something new was fantastic. The content was engaging and she learned lots. Funtech were very attentive, and if anything too attentive as any constructive comments left by my daughter in daily feedback forms would result in phone call to mum! She has learned skills to keep occupied for a long time to come. Would recommend.

Roblox is Imogen's favourite game - to find a course teaching her how it works from the inside and using maths, geometry & scripting to inspire an interest in computing was just too good to miss. She loved it.
The course moved at a good pace with pre-recorded short lessons supported by on line technical leaders and plenty of time to try out new skills and techniques.
Funtech accept Childcare Vouchers and even virtually, they look after your child and keep them immersed and learning - great use of funds!

They were a little behind the older boys who knew the game and we were separated off with a dedicated teacher to help at the right level, which was fantastic.
There were a few blips at the tart when we had to sort a virtual machine as one of our computers wasn't high enough spec, but everyone was so patient and tech support was superb.
I think Funtech really sparked an interest in the maths behind the games too - the girls are keen to do more next year and as they were able to take Childcare Vouchers as payment we'll be back next holidays for more, hopefully IRL, but virtual was made to work almost as well.

This summer our daughters attended the Python Game Developer in addition to the Python club. I was impressed by the extreme attention given to their learning curve and grateful for the amount of knowledge transferred . In addition, the tutors were extremely proactive in identifying gaps in understanding and following them up to ensure clarification. Funtech clearly put a lot of work into translating their camps into online courses. This was a great way for George to develop his love of coding and we were very impressed by the way his progress was carefully monitored to ensure he got the most from the course.

Amazing camp!

My boy is seven years old and although he is obsessed with Minecraft we have not been allowing him to play regularly because we worry about game addiction. We thought learning how to mod would be a good way for him to do something he really wants to do while being a creator rather than just a consumer.

Oliver was an amazing teacher and our boy learned so much every day. He developed a lot of familiarity with the PC, using the keyboard and mouse, running programs, and finding his way around a developer environment. Every day I have came home from work and he was eager to show off his latest inventions. He retained a lot of his knowledge and was able to independently create things at a later date.

Overall, I give this camp my highest recommendation!

How to have a happy teen!

If you have a computer made kid, this is exactly what you need. He’s got himself up and ready to go every morning with no pressure from us, and he’s really enjoyed everything he’s learnt. I don’t understand any of it but since my son is happy and enjoying his time, what more could I want?
