The camp was good in terms of teaching me me were to place my fingers and by the end of the week I gained 26 wpm. Unfortunately, half way through the week the Wi-Fi went down, this slowed down the learning because we had to use the offline software which did not give use the full learning experience. I was also disappointed when I arrived; my mother had told me the previous evening that the age was from 7- 16 but me being the oldest with 13. Another thing that I want to share is that even though the lunch is 1h and 30min,The Funtyper software I must say does work until you have learn were all the keys are bu the day is way to long for a camp, it is longer than a usual school day (from 9am- 5pm). t after that point there is not use of it. There are a few error's with the software for example the you should not lose a life for clicking the volume down button on the keyboard, or a lag in the system.

The fact that the child with permission from the parents is allowed out at lunch, which I think is great. The staff are kind but also strict so that the children stay focused and complete the course. they also go out at lunch to a park close by with is good so the children can move after sitting all day. At break they have toys and games to entertain the children.

Allover, it is good for a introduction to touch typing.

The courses that I've taught were interesting structured and the children usually found them challenging and fun.
Overall, I had a great experience working for Funtech and I can say that it is a 5 star experience for both tutors and children. :)

Pretty good week all in all. the sessions were fun, as were the tutors and now i feel much that i am much better at touch typing than i was before. Despite quite a few technical issues i think that this camp is definitely worth it.

We had a few issues in the programs that we made but the staff helped us fix them.
The was a few wifi problems and kept getting startled by the school bell but apart for that we had a great time :)

I was so touched to be given a scholarship to a week at Funtech for my son. I have never seen my child so engaged or happy to go somewhere from 9am-5pm. It was a revelation. If only school could be 50% as engaging! I highly recommend the courses to anyone interested. Thank you Funtech beyond words

Great Fun!!

Great time there, fun sessions, had a brilliant time coding and making the robots. Had a massive amount of fun fighting with the robots. Sir Killalot (AKA my robot) dominated the fights and Alex (my tutor) was cool.

Super summer camp

This my second week and i am still having a lot of fun, i loved the self defence and the last man standing on evening activities. I learned a lot in the java course and now i know all the basics of java. I even made a small roleplay dungeon game

I did a daytime camp about 3D design and i absolutely loved it! It was the best! We got to create our models, 3D print them, play a game with them in it and even see them in a hologram! It was the best week ever and i totally recommend it

I loved the easy instructions. It's fun and the breaks make sure you don't get headaches. I did the 3D design and printing and my mind was BLOWN.

This was the best camp by far that I've been to I did 3D game design it was easy to pick up even for beginners my teacher Nick (or Nickelodeon) taught us all the tricks and trades and our games turned out amazing would go again for sure

Funtech noticed my son's strengths as soon as they met him a few years ago and on hearing this from such cool people, it boosted my son's confidence more than you can imagine! My son is dyslexic and has a slow processing speed, and with the excellent support from all the teachers and staff at Funtech he completed his GCSE IT 2 years early and was thrilled to get an A. I am very proud of him and also grateful to Funtech for spotting him all those years ago and giving me the confidence to let him fly with his GCSEs. He learnt a lot about how to study too, his way, which he can now take through to his other courses. The staff are engaging, fun, knowledgable and most importantly - cool!

In this the final two games we made were hang man and higher or lower. The accommodation was great and I slept really well. For those of you who think that they will be learning to the level of coding plugins in minecraft which is an example of a Java coded program try doing another course such as 3D game design where you make your own 3D game with decent graphics. The java is not simple though. Even hang man is a difficult program to code. You learn a huge amount from this course and I recommend it. The food is also very good.

I did the Java coder course at Tonbridge School I really enjoyed it. The activities after lunch like bouncy castles and and gladiator were extremely fun and the java coding was amazing. The 3d game design looked really cool and so did the minecraft redstone.

IT WAS REALLY FUN

She came home and built minecraft logic controlled gates as well. She is very proud of it, and wants to be the first there and the last to leave! Nick at Northwood branch has done a tremendous jobs in teaching the kids the gates and controls and logical statements. He is a fabtastic teacher and I wish him the best and i hope he is here again next year when she wants to do Java and Minecraft MODS.

I did java coder summer camp and i LOVED it. I learnt so much and now I can do so much more on a computer. Also, I am doing the programming academy soon and It has given me all the information and courage I need for me to code. It was great fun as well!

nxt robotics - NORTHWOOD

It was awesome!!!! I had great fun and learnt lots of things. But when we were building the robots a lot of pieces were missing in our packs they had some spare packs. Next time I will try the Minecraft camp.

I went to a series of one on one tuition sessions for most of a year, to help with an extended project qualification I was doing at the time, involving writing a mod for Minecraft. I had originally intended to use various online tutorials to learn programming techniques, but there were none available which were designed for a beginner and actually explained what the code was doing. My tutor was very good at explaining these things, and I was able to quickly progress from explanation of the language to guidance on how to interpret the code, to creating simple mods and ultimately the mod I had originally hoped to make. He was also willing to spend time outside sessions investigating relevant parts of the code which he hadn't encountered before. Although there were still bugs present when the sessions ended, I had learnt enough to be able to fix (most of) them by myself over the holidays, and got an A* for the project. The programming experience has since been very useful to me in my studies in the computational parts of my university course (mathematics).

I love FunTech because I have learnt lots of things about Redstone in Minecraft and lots of brand new crafting recipes and machineries and surviving in hard mode on survival, and I found diamonds very early on the game(without cheats!!)

Throughout the course you are encouraged to start your own project and my teacher was very helpful in that area with a good knowledge of programming and Java.

I did this camp in Richmond and I think this camp was really good fun every single day.
But the only thing i didn't like was that play/lunch was rather boring.

Best Summer Camp Ever!!!!

Before the Funtech summer course if I had looked at some java coding I would have had no idea what it meant but now I am even coding at home!

Wow, my son Mike, aka Pip for reasons of his FunTech related success, studied ‘A’ level computing at the age of 13 & completed with an A grade at the age of 15!

FunTech have inspired him toward what I know, as an IT professional myself, to be the best career in the world.

FunTech repeatedly go the extra mile. When it came to work experience time, FunTech even provided the connection which resulted in Mike attaining a placement at Microsoft.

But how did we get here?

When Mike was in year 8, age 12½ his mum saw a FunTech advert, essentially to teach children to have fun learning how to write computer games. I know myself how fun that can be, so we asked him & took our enthusiastic young man along for an assessment.

From the outset I was quite impressed that they were assessing the children, rather than just taking the money regardless of suitability.

After the assessment they wanted to talk to us, his parents & recommended he didn’t do the write a computer game course, as they felt he was too advanced for it, but recommended another course, more suitable for his abilities.

They saw potential in him that the 11+ had not.

I looked at the skill-set which they were recommending he learned & realised that I wished more of the CV’s I was seeing for people wishing to work for me professionally had those skills & when they did they were the ones I tended to call for interview.

I love programming & the opportunity to give my son that pleasure, especially given his enthusiasm for the idea was something I wasn’t going to miss.

He did the course, although he was the youngest by far more than a year. He was a great success & one thing led to another & a dilemma presented itself. His great FunTech driven success led him to the opportunity to take an ‘A’ level in Computing, to be completed before his year group had even sat their GCSE's!

FunTech had always been very clear that school work had to come first, but then the technology that FunTech teach really is fun. Indeed, school homework can sometimes be boring, but the stuff FunTech do can be light relief. I do say this as someone who himself loves programming.

My concern was that while Mike, as a result of FunTech’s input, was now academically capable of meeting the ‘A’ level challenge, he was still a youngster & was he mature enough to keep this in balance with the rigours of school-work?

Mike was keen, but I went in to speak to FunTech about my concern. Their response was professional, balanced & wise. In the end I decided that the risk of holding Mike back by not engaging FunTech here, given his enthusiasm, well – he had to be supported in his decision to do it. With hindsight I’m so glad that’s the decision I came to.

It’s interesting, when applying for 6th forms, I raised the question when everyone else was talking about predicted & hoped for GCSE grades & whether their child could achieve a 6th form place, I asked the question as to the impact of Mikes early A grade ‘A’ level in Computing, given that we were being told by RGS for one that the key is GCSE results, GCSE results & GCSE results.

The response was physical, the tutor in question physically stepped forward, shook hands & stated “well that IS very encouraging”.

The world is Mike’s oyster, due to in no small part, the footing & inspiration granted to him by FunTech.

He is currently deciding which 6th form to give his support to.

In his free time Mike has written a tool his dad, that’s me, has used professionally.

These guys make you the best YOU can be not just others' expectations. With regards to people who have disabilities, in my opinion Funtech gives them all the support needed, it does not matter what grade you come up with all that matters is that your future is secure. Many children in this world don' t have the opportunity to have such a great place as Funtech, they cannot afford it. I say be thankful for this chance that many people just don't have and make your time here worthwhile. this comment is not just 'Propaganda' that Funtech has forced me to say but it true and from the bottom of my heart would like to thank all members of staff and Shen for giving people such a great chance to succeed. It is a very harsh world out there if you don't work hard you WILL get left behind, be thankful to Funtech. I have been a student at Funtech for not a very long time but once again I would like to sincerely thank once again all members of staff. I really think you should give them a round of applause from what started as a middle- aged women's dream of teaching into one big happy family.

Disorganised and damaging [FunTech reply @ end]

I turned up for lessons which were canceled due to snow ( difficult as we live over 13 miles away) because no one bothered to tell us. But when the exams came it appeared a lot of t

My son learnt to touch type here to help his dyslexia. It was suggested he continued and did his GCSE computer course. I turned up for lessons which were canceled due to snow ( difficult as we live over 13 miles away) because no one bothered to tell us. But when the exams came it appeared a lot of the work had been missed due to mistakes at fun tech this meant attending catch up sessions every evening after school and all weekend, not getting home till after 9pm having not even eaten, night after night. As this coincided with school exams my son could not do any revision for these and was exhausted. It has ruined his school grades and possibly his whole future as these grades count towards his final results. He was also guaranteed time and time again an A. He got B, 3 marks off the A and was told he should be pleased. He would have been if he hadn't been told consistently he would get the A. I was told they would ask for a re-mark, then told a few weeks later they would not. ( why do they say one thing and do another?) then to add insult to injury they sent news of another course,advertising in big letters that only 4 of there pupils had got the B while everyone else has an A. Rub it in why don't you.?
Billing was another issue. The finance side was a complete mess, invoices that nobody could explain coming and going, being told we owe money we didn't, being told we were owed money which never came back.
I work in the service industry. If things go wrong with somebody it seems all of it goes wrong. I'm sure Funtech has many happy students who go onto great success. As for my son Funtech has destroyed his confidence, left him distrusting teachers and severely damaged his future. To make it worse nobody can even be bothered to apologise. Still I don't expect this review to appear, I see that only reviews with excellent ratings are on this site!

A rather scathing review:

> I can appreciate the disappointment felt at missing a grade 'A' by 3 marks. However, no one, but NO ONE is able to guarantee a grade 'A'. We managed through hard work and dedication at no extra cost to bring him up from an average grade D/E to a high grade B/A. His mother was especially keen on him achieving a Grade A or above and we certainly said there was a possibility of this.

> To put things into perspective we feel he achieved an extremely solid Grade B despite having dyslexia, organisation difficulties and most challenging a short term memory and as such has done fantastically well.

Other comments:
> Cancellation due to snow: notice posted on our website, message left on voice mail & email, neither were picked up
> Scheduled sessions missed due to holidays, so catch-up lessons were scheduled outside of our normal working hours, again at no extra charge.
> Grade numbers are what they are, we can't alter these. I would however, say what an excellent testament to the team at FunTech that the lowest grade achieved this year was a grade B.
> Finances, yes there was a hiccup. The family were not paying the published fees for that year, which did cause confusion in accounts. We believe several apologies were made, if this was not made clear; "we would like to unreservedly apologise for the confusion caused in our accounts" I hope this will resolve the matter. Standing Order continued thus the reason for the refund which has been repaid one month after the end of the course.
> As a gesture of good will, free maths tuition was offered for the winter term - this was declined with a communication that they would never bring their son back to FunTech; the family called back mid spring term wanting these sessions which we were no longer able to facilitate.

We have been working with children for over 17 years, if we were that appalling we would not be in business. However, we have certainly not got everything right over the years - but this is still not one of those situations. Our ethos is strong and honest - we care about the youngsters and their personal and educational development. It’s not all about the grade.

Message for Mrs Orford. We are very saddened that we have caused such hurt. However, I sincerely hope that in time you may come to appreciate the hard work and effort we dedicated to your son in achieving his result and are very sorry that you feel so strongly about this.

I have not only gained exactly what was promised, a vast knowledge about all aspects of computing and dedicated teachers who have pushed me to achieve all goals set not only for Funtech work but also those within my school work as well. All of the teachers are extremely warm, caring and kind and the small, concentrated classes allow for personal attention. Shen, in particular, has been such an exceptional support for me throughout these years and has been a main driving force behind who I am today. She has not only been extremely important in all aspects of my school life but is now also considered as part of my family. Funtech in itself is not only a brilliant education and experience to be part of but also a whole new family which I am honored to be a part of.

Over the years which I have been coming to Funtech, I have found it brilliant and a very great learning place for all. As it is not just a business to teach the youth different ICT aspects but it is a family where everyone is cared for and can have a good laugh with each other while learning complex or the fundamentals of ICT. Funtech over the years has also built a very good reputation with excellent grades and students working in some of the biggest names in the information and technology industries. So if I were to sum up Funtech in one word it would be; Brilliant.

Back in the autumn of 2002, I climbed tentativly up the steps into FunTech for the very first time. There I experienced the wonders of computing from learning to touch-type all the way to navigating Lego robotic arms.
Now over 11 years later, I'm still here and having a great time. The place has changed over time but I've never stopped and I've carried on. I've made new friends, I've learnt valuable new skills, and had some really fun times. I've even now been given work here and it would have never happened if I hadn't gone up those steps all those years ago.
With FunTech, I've achieved an A grade in ICT, 3 years before I would have done it at school. I've been studying C# programming now for almost 2 years and intend to do the A-Level in Computing after my other GCSE's here.
FunTech is truly one of those places where, even after 11 years, it always feels like something to look forward to. The teaching is some of the best I've ever experienced and the summer courses on offer are really fun too (I intend to do the Minecraft modding course this summer).

Above all though, FunTech has been like a family to me and I have loved all my time here. Thank you Shen and all of my teachers for making this one of the most memorable parts of my childhood and I hope others can experience the joy and fun I've had here.

One very happy parent

I can not begin to express how highly I rate FunTech. My three children have been involved with FunTech since they were 5 years old and with 2 GCSE A stars already in the bag they are now attending a range of classes from Computer Programming to GCSE maths to preparation for Common Entrance.

Our daughter achieved A* at GCSE ICT - 2 years early, which gave her fantastic confidence and prepared her really well to for the challenges of her other GCSEs.

I studied my A-level Computing at Funtech back in 2005. The experience left me with not only a top grade qualification, thanks to the quality and dedication of the staff, but also the confidence and mind-set to go on to achieve my aspirations and goals.

As a result, I have been working as a business consultant for some of the largest multinationals. I have the encouragement and determination of the Funtech staff to thank as a big contributor to my success. At Funtech, every child has their individual needs cared for and the staff work relentlessly to untap ability and potential.

I attended FunTech between 2002 – 2005. During this time I completed the 1 year GCSE and Computing A-Level courses. My time at FunTech was very beneficial because I completed the 1 year GCSE before I took my other GCSEs at school, which gave me a head start on my peers in relation to external GCSE e

I attended FunTech between 2002 – 2005. During this time I completed the 1 year GCSE and Computing A-Level courses. My time at FunTech was very beneficial because I completed the 1 year GCSE before I took my other GCSEs at school, which gave me a head start on my peers in relation to external GCSE examination preparations. The course was fast paced and consequently very enjoyable. I started my AS-Level during my final years of GCSEs at school, which helped me substantially with my organisational skills, but once again prepared me for the change in academic demand associated with the transition from KS4 to KS5. Finishing the Computing A-Level a year in advance of my others at school was a huge advantage because universities accepted it as part of my conditional offer, which took the pressure off during my final school examination year.
Since my time at Funtech, I have completed a Biology Honours degree at University followed by a Science PGCE at Oxford University. I am currently working as a Science Teacher at a school in Oxfordshire whilst completing a part-time Masters at Oxford University alongside my teaching timetable.
I would recommend FunTech to other people. An extracurricular commitment to a course at FunTech is not only a great way to develop your computer skills; it is a fantastic opportunity to enhance the other transferable skills, such as time management and independence that are essential for further education and future employment.

I completed the 1 year ICT GCSE at FunTech during the 2008-2009 academic year at the age of 12. Prior to this course, I had attended a couple of the holiday courses. The holiday courses taught me various different computer related skills and I enjoyed them so much that I decided to commit to the GCS

I completed the 1 year ICT GCSE at FunTech during the 2008-2009 academic year at the age of 12. Prior to this course, I had attended a couple of the holiday courses. The holiday courses taught me various different computer related skills and I enjoyed them so much that I decided to commit to the GCSE course. Despite only doing my GCSE whilst in Year 8 at school, it taught me a lot about exam preparation and skills that were very beneficial to me as I progressed through my work at school. This meant I was less nervous about what to expect when I started my GCSEs because I already had some experience of them unlike my school friends. In addition to this, my FunTech experience encouraged me to present my work to a really high level. I am currently sitting my AS-Levels in Geography, German, English and Psychology. I really enjoyed my time at FunTech and found the teachers fun and approachable. They were really supportive and took a real interest in both your FunTech and school work.

Touch typing made fun

FunTech has inspired my 10 year old son to start learning to touch type, stick with it and become pretty competent at it within a few months. They've been great at pushing, encouraging and rewarding him and making learning a new skill good fun.

Great Courses!

I have thoroughly enjoyed all the different courses that I have taken part in at Funtech - Whether it was Stepped Approach, Programming or A-Level Computing, the teaching is great and the classes are fun and enjoyable.

What's good about Funtech ??

Everything is good about FunTech. Even though I am not too keen on homework it is still good to do because then you can revise on what you did in the lesson and make sure you understand what you did.
